Interviewing Tip of the Month: The Language of Color
Research shows that clothing colors convey different messages and evoke different emotional responses. So choosing the right hues for your interview outfit can help control the first impression you make. What do you want say?
-Black is a commanding color and represents authority. It also connotes drama, so use it as an accent.
-Blue signifies tranquility, authority, trust and loyalty. You can't go wrong with darker shades, especially navy.
-Red is a powerful color that also implies heat, danger and passion. Use it sparingly in an interview outfit.
-White shirts and blouses send the message of simplicity, cleanliness and goodness--and hit the right note in any interview.
-Shades of grey denote neutrality, sophistication and confidence (without being overpowering). After blue, grey is the second most popular color to wear to a job interview.
-Tan and khaki are calming, earthy colors that invite communication and are viewed as passive. |
